In life, being honest goes a long way.  In the last few days, I had the opportunity to be dishonest with strangers. Fortunately for them,  I corrected them thus paid for what I was supposed too and they earned the money that was due to them.

In the first case, I had given some outsource work to do for my Internet Marketing business. But because of bug in their system, one of her colleague gave me $10 more but he was unaware of fact. I could had taken it but I did not. She was glad that I was honest with the company. On the plus side, the next time she will remember me and be more open to listen/help to me.

The other case happened during the past night.  I was in a resto-bar with friends for a birthday party. When our waiter ask me how many Diet Coke I took, he mentioned 2. I corrected him and told him that it was 3 but even I was not sure either. I was correct and he was also glad of my honesty with him.

Of course, those a just little amount of money. But it's the principal that matters since those are hard working people. They work and get paid.

Internet Marketing Scam

Recently, there is a plague that I find dishonest in Internet Marketing: Limited copies of new IM products.  But the sad truth is that's a scam that Internet marketers are doing more for newbies and pro alike. They turn around and telle affiliates that they sold 10000, 20000.. units when they offered 254, 300, 324 copies. Limited copies my eye!

I did a few posts about scam offers recently but cease because it was too much work exposing them. I hope they will stop this dishonest behavior soon or at least really mean it.

For me, it also devalue a product/service that could be great but because of the scam marketing tactic used for it, they have lost a potential customer in me and others. In fact, because of poor service(never got the product) , I even removed myself from a well known Internet Marketer list because of that.

Greed is good?

Yes, I believe that greed is good(from Wall Street movie) because it will force a person to go above it's own limitations by thinking outside of the box.  But that person needs to deliver the product or service to make an honest profit. Should it be: Honest greed is good instead?

I know, the definition of profits could be seen has a negative greed depending on the context it was done.

Reap away!

You reap what you sow.

That's another saying that I believe in. Karma, the Universe, God ... or whatever you believe in will give what you sow one way ... or another.

For example, if your seed is negative to others, negative things will happened to you later when you harvest what you sow to others.

But if a person do realize the negative impact it did cause to others, I hope it's not too late for that person to fix it the best way possible. Maybe Karma, the Universe, God ... or whatever will help that person to cancel out that negative impact before more harm is being done to others.

Conclusion

With that in mind, it comes back that being honest goes a long way. You will reap the positive effect of that honesty later on.

I know, I only slept around 3h30 and felt a little philosophical that I finally decided to write this long over due post.

While checking the stats on the number of fans, it seems(blog) that they are having a problem with the counter or someone hacked the site. Some are getting above 100 000 when they seemed to have 70 000 a few hours before.

But  the fact is that do have more than 50 000 fans in just  a few weeks. They also going to have 2 events in the coming months.

La marche Bleu, on October 2,  is a march to manifest their support for the return of NHL team in Quebec City and tell politician this is a good time to get the new arena. They have a report that was not made public but looking good for a new arena since Quebec city could be a contender to have the Olympics thus a modern arena will be a must anyway.

The second is an "invasion" of the Nordiques Nation fans(8+ bus)  in Islander Country to see a Trashers(Atlanta) match on December 11 in New-York.  Like Scott emailed, it's not well received by Islander Country fans. Of course, if they seemed threaten by a possible move of either team, it could be their chance to show fans support to their current owners that they want to keep their teams in their cities.

It's only a beginning ...

A few days ago,  a local RadioX station started a new fan club: NordiquesNation.com. Their goal, which is not btw a radio stunt,   is to get old and new Nordiques Fans together again to demonstrate that they do want a NHL team back in Quebec City. Now, the "puck" is in their camp since RadioX just build the site to for the fans and later by the fans.

In only a few days, they already have 20,000+ fans from all over who sign up. I was not surprise since Quebec City is a hockey city and many long for the old days of the Montreal's Canadian and Quebec City's Nordiques rivality.

Even I, who is not into watching hockey, would watch those match. Like I mentioned, I'm not a hardcore hockey fan but I like to tease people that are Canadian's fan. when I had the chance. Even none hockey fans were "forced"  to hear news about the team result's on the sport news cast.

The arena

The biggest hurdle is that Quebec City needs a new multifunction arena. That arena would allow many shows/events to take place in Quebec City but right now, the current arena is not up to date. This in turn, don't allow some major shows/events to take place  in Quebec City because of this.

Show me the money

Also, most Quebec City residents don't want to foot the whole bill. The diverse level of government did pledge(elections promises) to help since it could fall in the many infrastructure investment to combat the current world economy slowdown.

But most would agree that a private investor would be better. Add the cost of the team itself, and you are talking about 100s of millions of investment with 400 for the area alone. Like my readers know, I'm more business centric so I do agree that the government should be taken out of the picture for the most part.

Personally, I don't want a big private investor come here like a white shining knight and ask for financial help in a few years from now because of bad planning.  It's a risk but a risk that tax payers don't want to be responsible later on. It most be viable by itself.

For that, I'm not opposed that the investor add a casino in the future arena. That's were the government could help while not having to invest but just allowing it in a joint venture deal. They already permitted a Lottery for Quebec City so why not a casino too?

Taking care of gamblers

Of course, some will whine because of the casino part if the investor do add it. I'm not without empathy for people with gambling problems. But I do believe in personal responsibility.

Besides, I'm sure they would be more positives than negatives for the whole Quebec city. Heck, the investor could just give 1% of the profit(tax deduction anyway )   to help  gamblers that do need help.

After 15 years, Nordiques  items  are still at auctions and available for fans/collectors like you can see below. Imagine having a new team  back. the auction would have to be separated into new and old Nordiques items.

Je suggère un casino(avec de l'aide %1 pour les joueurs compulsifs) pour que le projet soit viable pour un investisseur potentiel. Not so long ago, I was put in touch with a young woman that wanted a basic site for her new business. Sorry,  it's a local French speaking business in Québec city(ville de Québec).

In her case, she does not have any computer yet. Yes people, not everyone are online 24/7 and the money goes to something more important: her children.  That, I can understand and I'm always impress when people take control of their financial future even in this economy.

Working with MyStarterBlog

I used a current MyStarterBlog theme but modified it to her basic need. For now, the site is like a online brochure and I will update myself. Later if she get a computer, I will teach her how to update the site herself if she want.

She work mainly from her cell phone to take appointments so for now, I removed the contact page.You do need basic HTML/CSS to modify the theme.

For the graphic part, she was redoing her business cards and I asked her designer for a few jpg(logo, background). He was nice enough to email me those.

The site is done so that I don't have a RSS feed or news section. I only used the [homepagecontent] and a few pages/tags. Like I said, it's mostly to have an online  precence  and refer clients to the site to get more information after giving her business card to them.

Since I don't use any backend, I don't need to care about security issues. Also, it's light and fast for the server.

Making money with local businesses sites

Depending on your skills, you could start making a  basic site using MyStarterBlog to businesses near you. You could add some SEO services too if they have the budget.

Conclusion

In theory, it's something that could be done quickly if you have the content of the site first.

For me, it was a way to test the possibility of converting an English theme to French. Also, show what's possible to do with MyStarterBlog by going beyond the normal uses.

I had great success using NB since I started using them in December.  CB is less attractive since you don't have freebies like NB but still pay more when you get a sale.

You must register and start using them.

May you use Adsense so that you don't get smart priced.

I did not have time in the past months to track/use Adsense properly.  This cost me money by being smart priced and I accepted that.

Starting in February, I started to remove my Adsense code from most of my sites. I also show my ads to search engines only. The net effect is that it increased my Adsense earnings per click by 64%. I'm not finish removing them.

Seeing the results, I'm planning to use NBN content and MyStarterBlog to create high paying blog niches.

Exclusive: In the past week, I was updating MSB to v1.6(out really soon) to allow a blogger to show or not ads on a post by post basis. If I find a post that's not really paying because of the content, I can decide to show an affiliate offer instead. This feature is in the registered version only.

By creating a lot of auction targeted sites, you increase your overall passive income.  Not every site will pay you and that's okay. The average I see from newbies is in the 15% and 30%+ for the expert. But the more you build sites, the better you will get at finding paying keywords.

Let's say you buy a domain from 1and1(privacy included) and host it for $1.25/month . You create a quick auction sites plus do a BMD run in 1 hour. The total cost is $24 per year + your time. Now, you could lower that price by using a reseller hosting account(use coupon: xxxx).

Exclusive: Last week, I was about to build like crazy for the rest of March but it was not to be.  In MyStarterBlog v1.6, me and Rob(MSB Ebay Plugin) modified a lot in the themes so not to leave a footprint.  That's was the price I was ready to pay to lower my chance of getting deindexed by Big G. Just a quick post to mentioned that AuctionSiteWriter v2.1.0 is now available.

The main goal was to quicly add support for MyStarterBlog. So, instead of creating a phpBay API site, I will create a MSB blog. I will go to each auction sites I created with phpBay or BANS and convert them to MSB. I will be using the auction theme that buyers get with MSB. They still need to buy the MSB eBayPlugin.

Here is the thing: Big G deindexed most BANS, phpBay sites last year in a vast swoop of the hand. Most of my older sites were affected and some from late last year.

Even with that, January was my record earning month with just Yahoo, MSN traffic. Yes, I added a few auction sites since that but the last 3 months was mostly spent on programming MSB.

Using ASW with the template, I will generate a basic auction site. Then, by using MSB, I will had content specific to each products with an About, Contact and Privacy pages. This will give "credit" to my sites in the eyes of Big G.  I believed that Big G did not like my "thin" auction sites I was creating or it just don't like phpBay API/BANS at all.

Are my deindexed site be reindex by Big G? Maybe but once they are converted to MSB, I will ask for reinclusion anyway. It may take time but I have nothing to loose since most make money from other traffic. Plus, the new look will appeal to visitors and look more professional thus they will tend to bid more.

While most run away from creating new auction sites, a few people I know continued and are making more money from them.

It's up to me to do the same. What about you?

For the past few months, I was busy with my new software. That's the main reason for the lack of update on my blog. It took longer to do than I expected. That's the "joy" of programming.

So Today, I'm officially launching my alternative to WordPress, Joomla, Blogger: MyStarterBlog(MSB).

Where to use MyStarterBlog?

Like many bloggers, I have secondary WP blogs that I don't update often. I'm sure a lot of my bloggers have some secondary blogs too.

By secondary, I mean that I don't post or update WP to the new version like I should.  And last year, I learned that the hard way. One of my blog that was much more updated(post) than the others was infected. I wrote about it: Removing wp-stats-php Infection From WordPress.

I will convert all my secondary blogs to MSB soon. The first 2 are already done: MISFan.com and 1 Cool Review.

Is it easy to use MyStarterBlog?

If you are using WordPress, I'm sure you can use MSB. Install the software, enter some information about your blog, add posts and upload the files to your domain.

When you add another post, you only need to upload a few changed files.

Offline(MSB) vs Online Blogging(WP, Blogger...)?

Since the blog is "generated" on your computer, you don't have to mess with setting up a MySQL database. Because MSB does not have a backend, it's more secure than WP.

For example, the example blog(24 posts) below only use 200KB.

Because WP use a backend, you would need to upload 4000KB+ the first time.

The comment part was tricky since I don't use MySQL on the server. Since they are secondary blogs, I generally deactivate the comments.

But in case a blogger want to interact with his/her readers for a post, the reader can send a comment by email directly on the post. It uses a captcha to reduce spammers. Here is an example of the subject line:

[My Starter Blog Example] Comment: "Post 24 has a longer title"

If you find the comment has merit, you could add the comment to the post.

Is MSB SEO optimized/Google Friendly?

I asked Rob from NicheMate to make sure that the included themes are SEO optimized from the start. He did a good job on that.

I also wanted 3 pages to be there by default in each theme:

About: I often like to know more about the blogger or blog.

Contact: I once had reviews done but had trouble contacting the blog owner to correct mistakes.

Privacy Policy: Depending on the kind of blog, you might want to tell users what you will do with their email for example.

You can add extras pages if you want like an advertisement page, reviews rules  ...

The URL of each post will be based on the title of the post. The RSS feed and the sitemap.xml will be created too. For a post page, the H1 tag will use the post title and the blog title will use H2.

What's the difference between the Free vs Registered versions?

The Free version support 1 blog and has a footprint on each page to MyStarterBlog. I want to spread the word about MSB.  The link is nofollow  so Google will like that. It's free so I want some publicity in exchange.

The registered version support unlimited blogs, can import text files(batch mode) and WP XML exported files. Of course, no footprint on each pages.

I imported mcgrath.ca(362 posts) and it worked. The downside is that I would loose permalink(URL) and the usage of many WP plugins. Again, it's for secondary blogs or for someone who want to start a new blog.

How much for MSB?

First, I considered the time(months) I put into MSB and WP which is mostly free. You should know that WP does make money from WordPress.com (Premium blogs). That's one of their way they use to pay to support the self hosted WordPress distribution we use.

Second, I  wanted to make it affordable for most people.

Third, I wanted to thank the supporters of MSB my own way.

I had troubles using the affiliate script when I first relaunched See Free Movies Legally.

I changed to this hosting(HG), started over the installation(step by step) and now, it's ready. I suspect a few things but can't be sure. One thing is that I changed the DNS(web address) 2 times in 48 hours. PayPal might had trouble with that part.

Anyway, I was able to do a transaction this morning. Another friend help too and she had no trouble.

Now, go make money!

My sister sent me this story and the link to the video. I had to translate it from French.

This is for those that say: I can't but should think outside of the box.

The Story

A son asked his father: Dad, would you do a marathon with me?

The father, having a heart condition, replied: Yes

They completed the marathon together and many more after that with the father always accepting his son requests.

One day, the son ask his father: Dad, could we do an Ironman together?

And the father, again, said yes.

For those that don't know, an Ironman is the toughest triathlon on Earth. This a race with 3 competitions in one single event: swimming race at sea for 2.4 miles(3.86 kilometers), bicycle race of 112 miles (180.2 kilometres) and finally, a race on foot of 23.23 miles (42.195 Kilometers) on the coast of Big Island.

The father and the son did the race together. The video is 4m36.

Now, think outside of the box.

It's been viewed over 6 millions time since last year. Maybe you saw it before but it's always a good reminder to think outside of the box.

When I saw the title of the video, I thought of a weapon in a video game. I was thinking incorrectly of Doom but it was Unreal Tournament(my bad). It's been a while since I played UT but should had remember that.

You have YouTube, PornTube and GodTube(new to me). Like social sites, video sites are getting more and more targeted. Don't bother to check for blogtube or bloggertube. They are already taken but unused so far.
