To get spiders come to your site or blog, you need to tell them that you updated your site. That's why having an updated ping list is a good thing.

I already had an old list but with too many dead ping servers. So I went online and found many older lists(thanks) or older post about that subject. The reasons I wanted a new list was for 3 reasons:

1. MyStarterBlog

I wanted to had a ping function in a theme for MyStarterBlog(my own software). I created a new batch of small MSB sites to make money online from them since I'm doing Internet Marketing. Plus,  I don't use WP for the reasons I don't want to be bothered with the whole security/MySQL issues that gave me problems in the past. It's set and forget for those make money sites.

That's why I generate my sites using MSB because it creates a flat file blog/site. I need to upload to site with every change. In this case, my money 3 pages blog/site took about 100KB. For 1 installation of a WP blog, I can have 40+ MSB sites thus taking less space or resource on my hosting account.  I don't need a MySQl database either. The themes are SEO optimize, RSS ready, sitemap... but was missing the ping feature until now.

So, I found some php code to ping my sites made with MSB. I modified a few lines at the start for MSB and it was simple.

1. Download the code/ping list(173 ping servers, zip format, 2.9KB) to your MSB theme directory. You should change the default file names for your own needs.

2. Generate or regenerate the MSB blog/site.

3. Upload the updated new files

4. To ping,  just do that in your browser:

http://mywhateversite.com/ping.php or new name of the php file

Voila! It's done.

My goal was to be able to use the current MSB version and be optional for users. So, if you don't want this ping list for MSB, just use the list for ....

2. BMD

In BMD(a must for bloggers in my opinion), you can promote your new blog post or site to social bookmarking sites. It has a feature to ping your account page on those social bookmaking sites. This way your post will then be crawled.

One cool feature is that it also let me test each of them(active or not) and find duplicate. Those 173 ping servers were active when I created my list. I had 350+ at the start from copying lists. It took me some time or should I say BMD to check them out.

3. WordPress

As I'm writing this, I still using WP to write on this blog. So, I wanted to update that ping list too.

I may in the future convert my blog to MSB like I did with another blog that I did not allow comments (no enough time to respond/too much spam). I'm glad I did that since it make me passive money even if I don't update it often this days.

However, I might just keep WP here since MSB is mostly for secondary/no comment allowed blogs or make money sites(set and forget) for me.

Btw, when a ping server is still live, it make it faster to ping  in BMD or MyStarterBlog and WP.

Not so long ago, I was put in touch with a young woman that wanted a basic site for her new business. Sorry,  it's a local French speaking business in Québec city(ville de Québec).

In her case, she does not have any computer yet. Yes people, not everyone are online 24/7 and the money goes to something more important: her children.  That, I can understand and I'm always impress when people take control of their financial future even in this economy.

Working with MyStarterBlog

I used a current MyStarterBlog theme but modified it to her basic need. For now, the site is like a online brochure and I will update myself. Later if she get a computer, I will teach her how to update the site herself if she want.

She work mainly from her cell phone to take appointments so for now, I removed the contact page.You do need basic HTML/CSS to modify the theme.

For the graphic part, she was redoing her business cards and I asked her designer for a few jpg(logo, background). He was nice enough to email me those.

The site is done so that I don't have a RSS feed or news section. I only used the [homepagecontent] and a few pages/tags. Like I said, it's mostly to have an online  precence  and refer clients to the site to get more information after giving her business card to them.

Since I don't use any backend, I don't need to care about security issues. Also, it's light and fast for the server.

Making money with local businesses sites

Depending on your skills, you could start making a  basic site using MyStarterBlog to businesses near you. You could add some SEO services too if they have the budget.

Conclusion

In theory, it's something that could be done quickly if you have the content of the site first.

For me, it was a way to test the possibility of converting an English theme to French. Also, show what's possible to do with MyStarterBlog by going beyond the normal uses.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have other projects in the works but also updating MyStarterBlog to 1.7. Some preferred to wait for a stable version. You have one now!

Here are a few features:

• The free version allow unlimited blogs now. Of course, I prefer people buy MSB
• Added a List posts button to make it easier to add the bookmarks to do a BMD run.
• When the post was shown partially(more), I was writing in English: Continue Reading: post title.Since I started creating French sites too, it's now an options. The theme will have to be  translated in the desired language first.
• Added [analyticscode] so that you add your own site analytic code.
• You can now see when you last Generated a blog.
• robots.txt now support Sitemap: [siteurl]sitemap.xml to make MSB more search engine crawler friendly
• Added money related tags that could be used in a custom theme like PayPal and AlertPay email, CB id ....
• Added Keyword categories and a theme example. It's similar to "tags" in WP. It's not there by default in the included themes.
• For the MSB eBay Plugin, I added FR for eBay France.
• Added Pingler.com in the ping services.
• Added a quick save back.

The documentation will need to be redone and I'm considering/testing other options.

For now, the price is still $7 but I thinking of increasing the price soon considering the time/work goes into MSB.

Just a quick post to mentioned that AuctionSiteWriter v2.1.0 is now available.

The main goal was to quicly add support for MyStarterBlog. So, instead of creating a phpBay API site, I will create a MSB blog. I will go to each auction sites I created with phpBay or BANS and convert them to MSB. I will be using the auction theme that buyers get with MSB. They still need to buy the MSB eBayPlugin.

Here is the thing: Big G deindexed most BANS, phpBay sites last year in a vast swoop of the hand. Most of my older sites were affected and some from late last year.

Even with that, January was my record earning month with just Yahoo, MSN traffic. Yes, I added a few auction sites since that but the last 3 months was mostly spent on programming MSB.

Using ASW with the template, I will generate a basic auction site. Then, by using MSB, I will had content specific to each products with an About, Contact and Privacy pages. This will give "credit" to my sites in the eyes of Big G.  I believed that Big G did not like my "thin" auction sites I was creating or it just don't like phpBay API/BANS at all.

Are my deindexed site be reindex by Big G? Maybe but once they are converted to MSB, I will ask for reinclusion anyway. It may take time but I have nothing to loose since most make money from other traffic. Plus, the new look will appeal to visitors and look more professional thus they will tend to bid more.

While most run away from creating new auction sites, a few people I know continued and are making more money from them.

It's up to me to do the same. What about you?

For the past few months, I was busy with my new software. That's the main reason for the lack of update on my blog. It took longer to do than I expected. That's the "joy" of programming.

So Today, I'm officially launching my alternative to WordPress, Joomla, Blogger: MyStarterBlog(MSB).

Where to use MyStarterBlog?

Like many bloggers, I have secondary WP blogs that I don't update often. I'm sure a lot of my bloggers have some secondary blogs too.

By secondary, I mean that I don't post or update WP to the new version like I should.  And last year, I learned that the hard way. One of my blog that was much more updated(post) than the others was infected. I wrote about it: Removing wp-stats-php Infection From WordPress.

I will convert all my secondary blogs to MSB soon. The first 2 are already done: MISFan.com and 1 Cool Review.

Is it easy to use MyStarterBlog?

If you are using WordPress, I'm sure you can use MSB. Install the software, enter some information about your blog, add posts and upload the files to your domain.

When you add another post, you only need to upload a few changed files.

Offline(MSB) vs Online Blogging(WP, Blogger...)?

Since the blog is "generated" on your computer, you don't have to mess with setting up a MySQL database. Because MSB does not have a backend, it's more secure than WP.

For example, the example blog(24 posts) below only use 200KB.

Because WP use a backend, you would need to upload 4000KB+ the first time.

The comment part was tricky since I don't use MySQL on the server. Since they are secondary blogs, I generally deactivate the comments.

But in case a blogger want to interact with his/her readers for a post, the reader can send a comment by email directly on the post. It uses a captcha to reduce spammers. Here is an example of the subject line:

[My Starter Blog Example] Comment: "Post 24 has a longer title"

If you find the comment has merit, you could add the comment to the post.

Is MSB SEO optimized/Google Friendly?

I asked Rob from NicheMate to make sure that the included themes are SEO optimized from the start. He did a good job on that.

I also wanted 3 pages to be there by default in each theme:

About: I often like to know more about the blogger or blog.

Contact: I once had reviews done but had trouble contacting the blog owner to correct mistakes.

Privacy Policy: Depending on the kind of blog, you might want to tell users what you will do with their email for example.

You can add extras pages if you want like an advertisement page, reviews rules  ...

The URL of each post will be based on the title of the post. The RSS feed and the sitemap.xml will be created too. For a post page, the H1 tag will use the post title and the blog title will use H2.

What's the difference between the Free vs Registered versions?

The Free version support 1 blog and has a footprint on each page to MyStarterBlog. I want to spread the word about MSB.  The link is nofollow  so Google will like that. It's free so I want some publicity in exchange.

The registered version support unlimited blogs, can import text files(batch mode) and WP XML exported files. Of course, no footprint on each pages.

I imported mcgrath.ca(362 posts) and it worked. The downside is that I would loose permalink(URL) and the usage of many WP plugins. Again, it's for secondary blogs or for someone who want to start a new blog.

How much for MSB?

First, I considered the time(months) I put into MSB and WP which is mostly free. You should know that WP does make money from WordPress.com (Premium blogs). That's one of their way they use to pay to support the self hosted WordPress distribution we use.

Second, I  wanted to make it affordable for most people.

Third, I wanted to thank the supporters of MSB my own way.

AuctionSiteWriter v2.0 is now available.

The new feature is call Article spinner and only available to registered users. I did not write the documentation or made a full installation for it yet.

Since I'm adding more and more features, the new price will be $37. But for now, I left it at $27. In case you don't know, ASW comes with free upgrades for life.

What does article spinning has to do with auction sites?

I'm adding features to AuctionSiteWriter that are not auction specific but still can use for my BANS, phpBay sites.  With an auction site, you can get spinned articles by adding backlinks in the article to be publish using SK. If you promote 3 auction products per site, you can have 3 deep links to those pages in your article.

Using SK will help you more for that specific task(added SK button) or for a niche site(Spin). You could use the article to create more unique content for all your niche blogs/sites.

How the Article spinner feature work?

1-In the Original article page, you write an article or you can paste a PLR article.

2- When it's finished, you click on Import. ASW will then split every line finishing by . !  ? or carriage return (Enter). Keep the HTML to the basics thus avoid those characters.

3. You then select the Write line variations page. You will see a grid with every line of your article. Below the grid, you can write up to 3 more variations of the original line(Line 1). By writing something real, it make the article reader friendly and the more line you do, the less duplicate content you get when you spin it.

4-  Once you have finished, you select the Spin article page. You have the option to spin the article or click on SK to get the article compatible for Syndicate Kahuana.

Updated review of Syndicate Kahuna

At first, I was a skeptic of SK since I expected duplicate content and wrote my opinion about it. But after paying to be able to publish my articles to the network, I understood how it worked in reducing duplicate content. But I still believe that you should not use it on a flagship blog.

The network is made of blogs owned by other bloggers like me. It's free to register a blog and the blog must be categorized to be able to get related articles.

If I don't spin my article, it will only be published to 4 blogs(limited duplicate content). This was the mistake I made with my first article. By using the spin mode, I get more variations and thus get publish on more related blogs in the network.

To keep the quality of the articles high, they must be validated first. It took less than 12 hours.

My article will then be added to 2 new blogs per day until all of them are done.  The new feature in ASW will help with that particular task(SK button). Frankly, that is why I added this feature in the first place. I also needed it for my niche blogs too thus the Spin button.

Unlike most article directories, a blog will only get related content.  Like I mentioned before in another post, my financial related blog only gets financial articles plus my own articles when I have the time. My blog is less dead that way and I get new content for those readers and search engines.

The bigger the article, the more backlinks I can add in it.  In any case, those are contextual anchored backlinks that will increase your ranking. I'm limited to a maximum of 3 backlinks per article. However, the ads on my financial blog must compete with those 3 backlinks.

The price is $67/month to be able to publish your articles(no limit per month). You could test it for 1-3 months or you can get 45% off by paying one year in advance.

SK should be part of your toolbox to get content(free) and backlinks(paid). The same goes for BMD, FBF....

Btw, you links will be counted when your links gets counted by Google and other search engines.

Sitemap.xml PageRank Checker:
You give the URL of the site and it import the sitemap.xml of the blog. ASW will give you more than 100 URLs. It's a nice companion to Fast Blog Finder.

ASW won't give the dofollow/nofollow because since Fast Blog Finder found it, I presumed that you wanted dofollow only blogs anyway to build backlinks.

Plugin Code Builder:
I now support the phpBay WP plugin. The paid version offer more parameters than the free plugin. It will help you build the line to insert into a post.

Both features are in the registered version only.

When you listen/read/watch the news, you would think that the whole world is in a recession.  Luckily, you can make money in Canada in a recession even if you live outside of Canada . You see, according to the latest International Monetary Fund(IMF) update, Canada will have a growth of 0.3% in 2009. It's not much but Canada is not in a recession yet.

I'm sure other countries are in the same situation thus you could target them too. For example, you could use the phpBay WP plugins(paid version) to offer products to visitors related to your post. That's if the visitor's country is available in the drop down option of phpBay.

Know your traffic

Since my domain is a .ca, Google.ca does like me more and I wrote about this before. In my case, the bulk of my traffic do come from the USA and that's the main reason the plugin country option was left to the default(USA). But, you could make a post about a specific item from your country thus bypass the default country.

Make money in the USA

Even if the USA is in recession, you can still make money from that market.

A few months ago, most of my auction sites were deindexed by Great Google slapped like many webmasters I know.  Part of it was my fault but I won't go into that here.  What is done, is done and I can't control what Google do.

However, the money did not dropped to $0 from those sites.  Since then, I get about 35% the money I was earning before the Great Google slapped. I did not do nothing new to those sites or added backlinks.

You see, the traffic is coming from other search engines.

They are 3 lessons in here:

• Most of what I earned still come from the USA. They want cheaper price.
• If someone tell you that you don't need Google, they are full of crap. I want the 65% back.
• Set and forget sites are nice to earn residual income even deindex from Google

Btw, in the first 10 days of November, I already earned the 35%. It could stop now or they could continue to earn me for the rest of the month.

Looking forward

I was very busy with AuctionSiteWriter and updating See Free Movies Legally to v.3.0 thus did not take the proper time to work on old and new auction sites.

I'm releasing a minor version(1.3) of AuctionSiteWriter in the coming week or two. It's SEO and phpBay plugin releated related. After that, I planned to support phpBay API 3.0 make sites Google friendly.

Once it's done, I expect 2009 to be a great year for me with my auction sites and my other projects like AuctionSiteWriter.

One of the easiest way to get backlinks with PageRank, it's to use Fast Blog Finder(free/Paid). I have a 20% off coupon(GBF-9ECD) to upgrade to the Gold version(show more blogs).
