Netflix announced yesterday that they will drop HD-DVD. No new HD-DVD movies will be bought and the remaining HD-DVD disk won't be replace(lost, scratch ...). The number one online DVD rental will now offer only Blu-Ray.
"The prolonged period of competition between two formats has prevented clear communication to the consumer regarding the richness of the high-def experience versus standard definition," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix.
Some would argue that Netflix has a big warehouse. Even then, HD-DVD still occupies valuable space that Blu-Ray movies could use. Blockbuster removed HD-DVD from their stores months ago and kept Blu-Ray. But HD-DVD was still available. Will they fellow Netflix lead now? Best BuyBest buy will recommend Blu-Ray to it's customers.
“Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We've listened to our customers, and we are responding. Best Buy will recommend Blu-ray as the preferred format,” said Brian Dunn, Best Buy's president and chief operating officer. “Our decision to shine a spotlight on Blu-ray Disc players and other Blu-ray products is a strong signal to our customers that we believe Blu-ray is the right format choice for them."
The company noted that it will continue to carry an assortment of HD-DVD products for customers who desire to purchase these products. Cosmetics pick Blu-Ray That's the last place I would think to "look" for signs that it was over. But it's funny anyway.
Cargo Cosmetics has launched a new line called Blu_ray, designed for makeup artists who need to adapt to high-definition cameras.
Microsoft Price drop Last week, Microsoft drop the price of their external HD-DVD player for it's Xbox 360 to $129. I know, it's not news but I waited for Amazon to lower the price. The funny thing that on that day, the HD-DVD player was $155, the day after $139 and the HD-DVD player is finally at $119. Unless you have already invested money in HD-DVD, this only prove that HD-DVD is near death and I would stay away. Universal and Paramount won't have any choices. I would be curious how the next stockholder's meeting will go. Netflix is very well known.
